When the von Trapp Family Singers come to Salem on
November 27 for a 3pm matinee performance with the Oregon Symphony, area
students will have an opportunity to enjoy the concert at a discount.
The concert, which will feature the von Trapp Family performing some of
their holiday favorites , along with many of the songs made famous by
their great-grandparents depicted in The Sound of Music is a wonderful opportunity to bring your entire family to enjoy the concert and kick off the holiday season.
This concert is sponsored in memory of Dixie Kenney, who was an area educator and long-time supporter of the Oregon Symphony in Salem’s Youth Concerts. As the youth concerts were cut from the organizations budget this year, it was hoped that students, who have long been served by these young peoples concerts, would still have an opportunity to experience the symphony and enjoy the tremendous experience of witnessing a live performance of a premier orchestra. “We were deeply saddened by having to cut the Youth Concerts this year and have been looking at ways to still serve the students who look forward to their opportunity to come see the symphony perform. It has become a tradition for many schools in the area. The von Trapp Family Singers provide a family friendly performance that is suitable for children of all ages” said Nancy Stockdale, Executive Director “we hope kids will invite their parents, grandparents or other adults who are special to share this concert with them.”
While student tickets are not being offered at the box office for this concert, area youth aged 14 and under who are accompanied by an adult may enjoy the concert for just $5. Youth tickets must be purchased in advance by calling the Oregon Symphony in Salem business office at (503) 364-0149 no later than 5pm on Tuesday, November 22nd to reserve tickets. Tickets will be for best available seats and may be picked up at will call at the Smith Auditorium beginning at 1:30pm on the afternoon of the concert.
